100W on low dynamic dimed (Steve question)

Postby kissfanps » 28 Sep 2008, 07:05

hey steve i know you had mentioned that you get something like 35 or 37W with the 2266 dimed on low dymaic

I was curious how much you get with the 2466 dimed on low dynamic.....70?

I think you once said the 2466 on low dynamic was pretty much the super 100JH, so I was just curious how the wattage compare.

You get about 75W clean from both the SUPER100JH and the 2466.

So a 100W Marshall with KT66 isn´t really a 100 watter  :D Why did they call It a 100 Watter back in the 60´s then Steve?

Because they do put out at least 100W when cranked into distortion.

OK!
Think I´ve read that a 1959 amp put out about 150 Watts when crancked. Is It really possible to use a 100W Marshall with one 4X12 with Greenbacks without blowing the speakers?

The ratings on Greenbacks are pretty conservative. People have been doing it for what 40 years now. I'd say it's possible.

FWIW, I've stuck quite a few Marshalls on dummy loads to measure power output. My 2466 puts out 80 watts into an 8 ohm noninductive load prior to clipping. But I was looking at the output signal with a scope, to be exact you should measure output power at a given distortion level which requires a THD meter. I also have slightly high line voltage at my house, which may account for the extra 5 watts. My old 1959 head would put out about 105 watts under the same conditions.
