2266 head and Power Tube Rattle

Postby Tom99SS » 29 Sep 2008, 16:12

Well, guess this is not just for combos. I was playing the last couple days and noticed a little rattle sound coming from the Head. Thought maybe it was the back grill took it off and still the rattle. Did the old pencil eraser test of lightly tapping each power tube. The one on the right did not rattle, one on the left did.

Just feel that Marshall should supply better valves for what we pay. I have only had the 1/2 stack for a little over 3 months and the valves are out of warranty (purchased 6/30). So they lastest almost exactly 90 days and then one start to rattle. Very unhappy with this.

OK, after being frustrated with the tube rattle I decide to take out the KT66's and spray them with some DeoxIT and reseat them. Grabbed a bite to eat and then preceeded to test out the tubes to make sure everything was working after the DeoxIT (yes I am paranoid).

I did not believe my ears, no more rattle. I was even listening just for the rattle and no signs of it.

Can anybody try to explain this. I did not even switch the sockets the tubes where in.

Back to the lovely sounds of the VM. :D

Also, I apologize for crying wolf so fast. I bought the 2266 head instead of the combo due to the rattle issues. That is why I was so frustrated in the original post.

It was probably just in need of reseating in it's socket. The fact you removed it and replaced it was enough, the spray was probably not even required.

Steve,

Thanks for the reply. I though it was strange that the rattle would just go away from just reseating the tube but it did.

Just glad it is all better now.

Well last night was the final test. Had the VM cranked and no rattle.
