My VM Experience

Postby antoine » 09 Oct 2008, 11:57

Well, i want to share my experience with you forumers
I'm a huge Ritchie Kotzen fan, i've got his 2 Fender Telecaster signature guitars.
I play with the VM 2266 head pluged in a Marshal 4x12 1960 AV loaded with 2 Celestion V30's and 2 Celestions G12H-30 in a X pattern.
I've got a fantastic Richie Kotzen tone (i use his guitars, so it's nearly evident ) with these settings.

Reverb : Off
Master : 3:00
Presence : 9:00
Bass : 12:00
Middle : All the Way Up
Treble : 10:00
Dynamic Range : High
Mid Boost : On
Detail : 14:00
Body : 14:00

I've found the tone very warm and aggressive at the same time (in a good way), the notes have punch (i use 11/52 strings) it's very vintage and Kotzen like (kind of his "Get Up" album tones) it reminds me also the JCM800 sometimes... i like it so much thanks a lot Steve

i also noticed that if i set the Master about 11:00 or 12:00, the sound looses his magic, it becomes more harsh, less organic, strident.
I think i need the JH Greenback now to havet he perfect woody Vintage tones i like so much.

Just like to tell i need to use the VM with the Master at 3:00 to obtain this magic sound, the volume is very high, but it's the price to pay to hear this beast screaming his magic.

Many thanks for this amp Steve :D

Glad to hear you are getting along with the amp. I would imagine those DiMarzio pickups on that Tele really sing. I have used the speaker configuration you are using now only to switch to straight Vintage 30s and then now to a 4x12 Lead 80s cab. I recently put the Custom Shop Fat 50s in my Strat and have to say through my 2466 it is simply magic. You might try a 2466 later to see if that works out better for you, I went from the 50 watt to the 100 watt and was glad I did just for the added clean headroom.

Welcome to the forum and post us some clips, would love to hear them.

I want to add i don't want the 2466 because of his 100 Watts power, as i've said, my 2266H has got the sound with the Master at 03:00 and it's a high volume level, as i play in a band and we do concerts in Pubs and Bars 2 to 3or 4 times a week, this is too loud, so i don't need a 100 Watts, because i like this VM with his Master set high, and a 100 Watts will be too much... my 50 Watts is a keeper . :D

I also have these in one of my Strats and I will +1 that comment. :)
