Sorry, yeah I re-read the OP and he does say he had the detail cranked. My bad. Sometimes we read through a post too fast.

Wow, I think most everything has been covered by previous posts. It is probably time for a real good tech to look at your amp. The 2266 and 2466 have gain to spare. I don't know what you paid for your amp but I can tell you most of us here on the forum that own the vintage modern love these amps. One of the finest amps I have ever owned. Definitely worth repairing. Good luck.

In general when I'm using the LDR mode I get a good rock tone (for me it is just like The Hellacopters sound on the song Toys and Flavors) with Detail at max and Body somewhere at 12 or 1 o'clock, I'm using a Les Paul with PAF-type pickups. Using a Tele with single coils I get a bit cleaner sound with the controls at the same position.
V2 is the HDR tube....V3 is the tone stack. I've found a short plate ECC83 works really well in V2. JJ's are ok but a vintage RFT is the best I've tried. ECC81 / 82's in V2 will reduce the HDR gain, but to the detriment of tone IMHO.
