Here's a snippet from a pm from Steve when I was worried my fx loop was faulty (turned out to be a grounding issue with a rehearsal spaces extension lead)
"The only difference between having the FX loop engaged or bypassed is there will be a very small amount of extra top end included when the loop is active. I did that to compensate for the usual loss through guitar cables. This can appear to the ear as a very slight difference in volume."
So I guess the loop itself is buffered to a point?

I don't really know if Loop is buffered but I got my A-ha expirience when I changed my loop cables with short ones.
Everyone in my band noticed the difference. Never looked back. I connected delay pedal in loop by two short patch cables.
So you just need to wire pedal switch in way that you can conytol it from some distance.

So this is why the JMD sounds a little more lively when the loop is engaged .

If you want to try a buffer JHS makes one you can use in your loop.

Suggestion: you might try an e.q. pedal in the loop; help you to boost or cut. Let us know how you make out.
