Hi all
I want a amp whit the sound of slash (Appetite sound) but idk what buy:
AFD100
JCM800 (I love it)
Vintage Modern ("the reedition of the vitage", many say that is equal)
Which Have better sound? Too much peoples tell me that they are same but the diferent is that one has the slash mark and the other not.
The AFD is a reprint?
I really same?
Vitage give the sound of the album appetite for destruction?
VM have #36 mod?
What about JCM800? I think it have better sound to imitate the sound of the album appetite
I have both, all I can say.
The VM can get REALLY REALLY close.
The AFD nails it, it just has something about it that makes it closer, the attack from your pick on the strings or something. There's this grit about it that gets you that 1 step closer. BUT, I'm not a fan on the #34 on the amp.
VM will do more for you, so if it's versatility you want as well, then go for the VM.

Here's my cover of Nightrain with my VM. Mind you this is "my" dialed in tone, I wasn't trying to get a "slash tone" when I recorded it. But as you'll hear I get really close.
Well the VM will get you close, and then be avle to do alot more different tones.
With the AFD100 it's as close as your gonna get with any amp Marshall has released for sure that hasn't been modded afterwards. I don't think you should go and buy it just to try and sound like Slash though. I wasn't gonna buy the AFD100 if that's really "all it did" besides not having a great clean tone, it's a great amp in it's own. I'm also getting used to the no reverb thing ahaha.
I'd say if you have a chance, you should go out and try both of them, and make your decision that way. That would be the best thing. Both amps are great, and if you got the money... buy both :) ahaa

Slash is know for using VM earlier... so if you say Slash sound I would say both is just fine.
The AFD is not a one trick pony... far from it. It really reacts differently to different guitars/pickups/pots... I mean really.
The AFD tone is really a neat thing to dial in (all on 6 basically) for fun/show, but it's what else it does that triggered me.
I also love the #34 mode. It's a but tricky to get right, but when it's right... well... then it's right. Before disconnecting my entire music room for refurbishment, I found myself using the #34 mode more than the AFD mode. Get help from the Sonic Edge J&J Overdrive. That really works well with the #34 mode.
That being said... the reason delivered the VM back to the store to get an AFD is because it's a limited edition... I don't want to end up paying a shitload more for a used one if that'll be the case in the future.
If you want one amp that gives you somewhere close to Slash tone, then it's definately the VM... hands down.
The VM have a beautiful clean tone and even though it can be tricky as the LDR/HDR mode is so different, it really is a lot more versatile than the AFD.
If you want to have both at a point, the get the AFD now and the VM later... as there will always be a VM for sale somewhere, used at a good price or new if that's what you want. Unlike the AFD, the VM is here to stay.
I've owned the VM and AFD100 and I don't think they are that similar.
Sure, you can get into the approximate ballpark range using any boosted/hotrodded style Marshall. But to my ears the VM is voiced very differently in the mids. Much more open vs the AFD which is quite focused. I suspect the KT66 vs 6550 plays a part there.
What's also very very different (and this made the AFD for me) is the "feel" of the AFD. The gain on the AFD just has this tight but percussive "springiness" to it, which is different to any amp I've played. This for me is what really nails the AFD feel, if that's what you're looking for. And it's awesome for a heap of other stuff too.
I think it too, for me the sound is different. In the music shop the guy say me " the VM is same, only have slash signature, changes that only" Is true?
For me better than the two is the JCM800 but in my country it is in $9000. I don t pay in dolars. For this i want to know if they hae the same sound.
But, everybody are saying that the VM has more variasiones in his sound?
VM haven t got the #36 no?
How is called in this amp?
look the video i posted
minute 6:18---7:15 U can see the difference
JkGriffin is right, if you really want the slash sound, get the AFD100 now and then the VM later on. I think having them both is a great duo. I used to have the JVM/VM duo but I traded in my JVM with some cash and mics for the AFD. And the fact that used heads like the JVM and VM are getting pretty cheap now too. Whereas the AFD will only go up in price.
The VM doesn't have a #36 mod no. Just the way you can dial in your settings.
