NAMM show without Gibson

Postby Sigi M » 04 Jan 2018, 13:38

The same sad Story as it was last year at Musikmesse Frankfurt. The end of the big Musicinstrument shows?

I actually work for a large German Kitchen Company Sigi, they have reduced the number of shows at which they display their products. The main reason is the costs involved with staging such displays can be large and they have chosen to spend their marketing dollars elsewhere, mainly increasing their online presence.

I'm not sure if this is the same reason Gibson has chosen not to attend NAMM this year, but maybe, as you suggest this could be the beginning of the end of the large musical instrument shows.

Gibson decided to go to the electronics trade show in Las Vegas a few weeks after NAMM instead.

What their thinking is I have no idea. I for one won't miss their booth at NAMM.

Could very well be. As we have seen with the decline of " Mom and Pop" shops where you could actually get your hands on something Vs online retailers and their price/selection people seem less concerned with try before you by as opposed to convenience and cost. At a show the manufacturer picks up the tab on promotion but a retailer picks it up if it wants the sales. That's a win for the company.
