The Chinese (Shuguang) KT66 is what the amp comes with but they are known for many of their tubes making rattle noises. You may want to try the Genelex Gold Lion KT66 as an alternative. When I order new tubes those are the ones I'm going for.

I baught a pair of shuguangs from thetubestore.com and put some cheep dampeners on them from levytubes off of ebay. I have not had one rattling problem yet and it is a combo! Don't switch to 6L6s or 5881s, they don't have the balls of the KT66s and the amp won't be true to what it really can and should sound like. I can't comment on the gold lions as I have no heard them yet, but I have read that they are not like the original genx at all.

6L6s are absolutely not the same as KT66s especially sonic wise.

hi steveD, and big thanks for your reply great forum and love the the combo, but out of interest, is there any tubes you would recommend for the 2266c. pre amp or power stage, that i can easily get hold off in the uk, (wales that is) i usually deal with hotrox through the Internet. there's no such thing as a local amp shop in Aberystwyth.
all the best

I would recommend you call Marshall direct - 01908 375 411 - and ask for spares. When you speak to the girl tell her which amp you have and the grade number on the valve base if you are after power amp valves and she will try to supply the same grade. :)

The valves we put in are the ones we recommend. However, if you're willing to spring for a genuine set of GEC NOS then that's another story. 8)
