Tung Sol EL34B

Postby ClassicRock88 » 28 Aug 2013, 11:58

Anybody have experience with these in a Marshall? I saw them in a copy of Musician's Friend September catalog. I know that Tung Sol is supposed to be making pretty good tubes right now and I wondered if anybody had ever put a set of EL34B's in a Marshall. Did they survive? How did it sound?

I don't have experience with the EL34B, but I put TUNG Sol 6550 tubes in my AFD100 and it sounds awesome with these. Hope this helps a bit.

Glad to hear that! I guess that since I can't get =C='s anymore, when I feed the Granger in a couple of months it will get Tung Sol's. Same for the Adams. I might put them in my 800 once I can figure out why it keeps eating them. Right now she gets JJ's because she tends to be hungry...

so does Doug's tubes but slightly more $$-

SED =C= are formerly Svetlana so you may try EBAY too.
here's another source w/ them in stock-

personally I'm debating the switch from 6550's to EL34 just because of tube costs..
SED =C= 6550 per pair is $100 . :roll
Svet 6550c-$33.95 ea.

Blues,

I play bluesrock and classic styles rock. I do know that my tech that takes care of the 800 replaced the bias resistor. I think she runs just north of 450.

well something is wrong if it's eating tubes.
for blues/rock/classic I wouldn't go w/ JJ's in an 800 myself. the SED,Svets,or even Rubys would be good.JJ's are a darker more heavy metal tube.people tend to like them in the 800KK.

Ok I have still been checking these out. Most people say that they hold up well but some complain of reliability issues with them. Also I understand that they bias differently. In what way??

Had a set of the Tung Sol EL34B's in a JMD-1 for about a year. (Lot of hours). No complaints, Quiet, and has a nice warm tone. Closest thing to my main guitar tone is, Mick Jones of Foreigner.
Been using Tong Sol's in my other amps for quite awhile. So far, it's the only brand, I haven't had a failure with........
