I've had my VM for less than a year and I'm happy with the sound but sometimes I want more crunch for good RNR. What do you think about KT88s? Does it have to have 66's or will 88's work? ....or do you have any other suggestions? I'm a total rooking on tube amps but I work on elctronics for a living so the maintenance is not hard for me.

I know... Im bringing back a dead thread here, but as time has past what are you vm guys running now? My amp is due a re valve (one preamp valve is still stock and I'm not too sure on the Mesa ones the guy before me put in) and its still on stock power valves and I think I'm starting to get some signs of wear ( an odd random click when the valves are running hot and the guitars volume is rolled off completely and a underlying rustle/scratch between playing) so what do you guys recommend? I'd like to tighten the sound up a little possibly looking at a little more gain than I currently have although I think the mesas in the preamp and the worn kt's might attribute to this.
les Paul -> cry baby -> mxr/CAE boost/line driver -> mxr m77 super bad ass modified OD -> marshall 2266 front end ->loop -> TC flashback delay -> mxr 10 band EQ -> marshall sv-1 chorus -> loop return -> marshall mf280a 4x12 cab
