PM brand tubes, anybody know?

Postby Julesman64 » 27 Jan 2010, 09:59

I just scored a pair of PM brand KT66's for like 25$ on ebay, they look suspiciously like the normal chinese tubes. Anybody heard of em? use em? love em? hate em? I still think they are shuguangs, just a different stamp.

Here's a link (I hope it works)

Never heard of PM tubes. When I buy replacement power valves I am very careful where and from who I buy them from. I like my tubes to be matched. Also personally I wouldn't buy from I seller that did not have a long history of feedback. They may be fine, just saying

Chances are they are bog-standard Shuguangs. A colleague of mine here in the UK is currently negotiating with Shuguang to supply him with valves and badge them with his company name. The impression he has is that they will supply and badge them for anybody if the price is right. The various branded chinese valves doing the rounds at the moment are all produced at the same factory - the trick is testing and matching them and different suppliers will have different ways of doing this.

Before my VM, I had a Jubilee 2553 and it had PM 12AX7's when I bought it secondhand. I believe they were the original preamp tubes. EL34's were GT's. Anyway, I swapped out those PM's and got better sounds using some other brands. If I remember correctly, the PM's said "made in china".

i had a set of PM 6L6 GC's in a fender blues deluxe, that was ten years ago, still got em, still work. They are however sitting in a box cause the groove tubes in the amp sound a bit better, could be the amp tho, ha.

PM are the company that supply marshall and other OEM manufacturers. They are the people behind the SED winged C's. They re-brand SED's and there economy versions are of chinese origin.
