What's the exact JJ preamp tube number in V1 of the VM 2466?

Postby frank9310 » 26 Jun 2010, 21:57

Can somebody with a stock VM pull it out and tell me what is the exact JJ preamp tube number in V1 of the VM 2466?

Mine went microphonic so I swapped out several 12ax7s I had in a box and forgot which one was the one I yanked out of the VM. :eek

If it's the stock Marshall one it will have 'VALVE-66' printed on it.

Thanks Steve, I found the tube and it does say that but is this the same as a JJ ECC83S and is it a high or low gain tube? I know you mentioned low microphony. Thanks!

I don't think they are supplied as high or low gain, they simply have a nominal gain and will be within an acceptable tolerance of that. The gain is largely dictated by the surrounding components so it's not critical.

ok so it must be marketing then because Eurotubes who I think is the US distributor for JJ sells them as high or normal gain. Does this look like the one? https://ssl.eurotubes.com/cart/index.ph ... gory_id=12

They also carry these https://ssl.eurotubes.com/cart/index.ph ... egory_id=2
