a tube question, what do you expect :)

Postby ETHAN-ROSE » 09 Dec 2010, 06:54

Reading up on things preamp valves have a fairly large part to play in the overall tone of the amp and i was wondering....
what would be the best line up in a vintage modern for a very heavy sound and what makes and brands are the best in people opinions?
I'm particularly interested in what tube would be best in V4. I was told that thats the most important pre amp tube and should be replaced as often as the power tubes.
cheers

Don't waste your money trying fancy NOS tubes for this amp, not going to make a big difference. Actually the power tubes make a bigger difference. IMO when you buy the tubes have them selected for early distortion and low microphonics. I personally like the Penta or Tung-Sol tubes, some also like the JJ tubes.
