12au7a/ecc82 and 12at7 tubes

Postby pillagethesound » 13 Apr 2011, 19:53

So I got my hands on an old GE 12au7a/ecc82 tube and an old HH Scott 12at7. Was wondering if these guys were useable in the Vintage Modern as subs for the ecc83 tubes...mostly for experimenting purposes. Wanted to throw them in and play with different positions. Ultimately they are gonna end up in my real tube overdrive pedal...but wanted to have my fun. Also if they are compatable, any suggestions as to tube placement, also still have Marshall ecc83 tubes and a Ruby 12ax7. Thanks guys

Yeah, they're compatible and no harm trying them out. You'll get the most dramatic results with the GE 12AU7. In V1 it will affect everything while in V2 it will only affect the HDR. In V3 it could be interesting. I like 12AU7s and 12AY7s too. They can really sweeten up a stage.

On the other hand, the 12AT7 would have its best use in V4 as the P.I. and will probably sound like ass in V1. Again no harm in trying them. Have fun!
