Can't go wrong with the new Tung Sol tubes. Right now however I am really liking this new tube below, they are great, lot of gain and very quite.

Do you have any more info on those Preferred 7025 tubes? Where are they manufactured? It looks similar to this:

http://www.tubeampdoctor.com/en/shop_ot ... ANODE_1277

Could it be this Shuguang?

How do they compare to Tung-Sol?

I don't. I can call them and find out. I bought three and put two in my 25watt Fargen and the gain was equal if not more then the stock Tung Sols but they are dead quite.

From the Tube Store
We have waited a few years for something unique and high quality enough for our own premium house brand. This tube is an exclusive build contract from China that will only be available to two distributors. The materials, design, and quality control were specified. We have been extremely pleased with the end result and also with the very favorable customer feedback.

We are the junior of these two distributors and the senior distributor has not yet released this tube. Unfortunately we are contractually forbidden from revealing the factory or the other distributor.

Seems they won't tell who makes them. I wonder which the other distributor will be... a bit exciting though.

There is only the one tube factory in China as far as I know. But this factory must accept making custom tubes to the customers specs. The tube store was saying them and another dealer are the only ones getting these and the other dealer hasn't started selling them yet. Again I really like the tube, try one.

Back on topic, the stock tube that comes in the VM for the V1 position is a high gain JJ.

Shuguang tubes are all stock with the exception of the V1 preamp tube which is a selected low micophonic JJ tube.

Thanks to @surfnorthwest, please help me tube config one by one for the best hi-gain & smooth sounding.
I have some JJECC83s , Mesa Russia II, Electro Hamonic, Sovtek, and one Tesla E83CC Nos tube.

I was setup bellow: V1 (Tesla E83CCNOS) V2 (12AX7EH) V3 (Mesa Russia II) V4 (Sovtek) but sound BAD, harsh, and shrill. Come back to stock tube sound better.

Hey surf,

Why the different tubes instead of putting the same ones in all four? Is there is an amplification stage that reacts differently in each position or is it merely a combination of sounds that are respective to each tube. I am looking to switch out tubes and I wanted to go with GT's but have seen people mention this more than once or twice. Having multiple brands seems to be the norm.

BTW on this topic, once you switch them out do you have to bias?

Each preamp tube has different function. You don't need to
rebias after replacing preamp tubes.
Re-bias if you replaced power tubes.

For what it's worth:

Dougs sells what he claims is the same "Preferred Series 7025" tube for $7 less...unless you request higher gain tested ones, + $2:

"...Warm tones, sweet overdrive. Same as TAD 7025-S and Preferred Series 7025...."

http://www.dougstubes.com/preamp-tubes/ ... grade.html

The Tube Store is in Canada, and Dougs is in the US....both are good folks.

Thanks guys. @Sikter, so give me an example of a good setup for preamp tubes on a 2466. BTW, what I'm looking to achieve is a higher gain and a stinging type sound. Hope that's a good description but that's what it sounds like in my head. I've seen a demo from slashwannabe1 and he switched to JJ's as opposed to the stock tubes which definitely have a richer tone. I've got a friend who uses GTs and he loves them and it has a great sound. As far as other brand of tubes I'm not steeped on those.
