SOVTEK 12AX7LPS + GOLDEN DRAGON 'TRUSTWORTHY'

Postby burnsy » 06 Jan 2012, 04:23

Anybody any first had experience with either of these two preamp valves?
Searching the internet I found many people raving about the 12AX7LPS particularly in the Phase Inverter position of amps. I also found warnings not to use it in certain other positions as it could not cope with certain levels in cathode follower tone stacks for example. Would appreciate comments from anyone who has used them particularly in a VM.
The Golden Dragon Trustworthy is a mystery to me. It's chinese so it's got to be a Shuguang but does it offer anything over and above the standard valve they produce. I love the sound of the chinese valves but we all know they are not good on microphonics and I find them unreliable. If this 'Trustworthy' valve is trustworthy it may be worth a go.
Any comments much appreciated.

Here is a article on those tubes, I never seen them here in the US.

Anymore I buy my tubes from the tubestore.com, I have had very good tubes from them. Never bought any 12AX7LPS tubes before, for phase inverter tubes I have been using the 12AX7WA tube as recommended to me by someone I trust.

Right now I am vesry excited about the Tube Stores 7025 tubes, I love these. Dead quite and nice gain. I bought 10 of them just to have some if they are every discontinued.

I've never seen a 12AX7LPS (Have a WA in my Epi Valve Jr., not a big fan as JJ's sound better to my ear in that particular amp).

I was going to do my next tube purchase from Tubestore as I discovered they're about 45 minutes from me. Surf (or anyone else for that matter), how does the 7025 sound in the VM and how does it differ from the stock tubes to your ear? I'm going to do a tube buy soon and was thinking of trying a couple of different 12AX7's just to satisfy my curiosity (was thinking of some Tung-Sol's and 7025's) of what they sound like in the V1/V2 (and in my other amps too). How gainy are they compared to the stock tubes?

These ones I am speaking of moved ahead of the new TungSol tubes on my list that I had been using. Of all the new production tubes those were my favorite until I tried these 7025s. As far as sound (always hard to describe) the have loads of gain, are not dark and best of all the are truley quite tubes, I really like them. Notice less noise for sure in HDR, LDR has always been dead quite anyways.

In my TSL100 it made a very noticable difference in less noise with loads of gain still.

Sorry Burnsy
