I believe I've read before that Tung Sols in certain amps because of the way the tube is designed don't appear to light up like other tubes. This may be complete crap though.

Just checked, here's where I read it:

http://thetubestore.com/tungsol12ax7.html

"One other note about the construction of these tubes is they have filaments that are almost completely encased in the plate structure. They don't "light up" brightly when working properly."
Amps - Marshall VM 2266, 425a, Soldano SLO-100, Galt Musical Instrument The Mason 5 (1955), Fender Super-Sonic 22 Combo, Orange Brent Hinds Terror, Garnet Herzog, Custom 1x12 w/Celestion Vintage 30
Guitars - 2007 Gibson Les Paul Standard, 2014 Fender American Standard Telecaster, 2014 Fender American Standard Stratocaster, 2013 Gibson SG Standard, 2014 Epiphone Casino, 1997 Ibanez RG470

Tung Sol tubes are one of the better new tubes. I recently switched from those to 7025 tubes sold as preferred by the tubestore, really like them.

Not only the VM but in every amp I have now. They produce nice gain but the big thing is they are dead quite.

I like them alot. Worth ordering one or two and give them a try. I bought 10 and got a nice discount.

This link has a good review of them as well as a chart rating many new tubes for gain and microphonics.

Very cool. How do they sound compared to the vm stock?

I definitely need new tubes all around. Feels like I'm fighting the amp. And its been pretty fizzy sounding lately.
