PURE ROCK WITH TSL100

Postby Roger » 13 May 2017, 05:56

Hi Guys.

I maked the same track PURE ROCK but using the emulated line out of my moded TSL100. I use only the crunch channel for the rhythm and lead. The guitar the same strat. As always the execution it's not perfect. I think the record quality is best but don't have the vintage tone of VM's.
Hope you like it.

Is this channel two? Is this the amp you did the Europa/Antimonium mods to? I have had my TSL on my table for over a year debating weather I want to replace the main board or do the stable bias mod to it before I try the Europa mods and snip the ducking circuit. I have only played this amp maybe two hours and don't really like it as is. If this recording is the modded head, do you think it is worth the effort to do the circuit mods?

Yes! the Europa/Antimonium mods. I have used channel 2, with the bridge pickup and the center pickup at the same time. The guitar it's low output pickups. Add 82K resistor in series with C8, C7 changed to 500p on the lead board and C18 changed to 220pf on the mainboard. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU CHANGE THE MOTHERBOARD, THIS IS THE FIRST MOD YOU HAVE TO DO. This things make a big differents.
If you play at very high volume also filter choke it's a must have. My filter choke is 6H 200mA.
The standard TSL has the very same crunch and lead channel. I love this amp, IMO it's the best of the best.
Also I have the last version of the other boards. Clean, crunch, lead and rear boards

I don't know if worth the effort to the circuit mods. It depenns how will cost the mainboad. The mods are cheap. I like the most this amp with hambukers pickups. I think The VM it's better amp with single pickups. I bought the mainboard on hotroxuk.com in 2010. Cost me three times more money the preamboards and rearboard than mainboard. The TSL for me has a great memory because I did many gigs with it. Will always be with me.

Another good one. Shows the clear difference of the TSL to the VM.
You know Roger, you should look into getting some recording gear and software.
On the one hand, you like to do it simply this way, but it doesn't do your ideas and playing any favours.
You deserve better I think.

Totally agree Al. But I'm grazy :crazy I want buy another amp. :crazy I'll probably buy a 6100LM. I don't need it for anything but I want it. I found a good deal and I can't say no. Then I hope that I focus on getting improvements in my stuff to record, that I'm sure that getting better stuff than I have will be easy. But I haven't bought a new guitar for some time, who knows :smoker

I never liked the recorded sound I got out of the emulated output on my TSL. It works but I find myself adding some post eq to the sound. Your recorded track sounds good though, maybe might have to revisit it again.

Thanks Surf. I'll try a new small track with TSL and my LP. I think it sounds much better with LP humbuckers.

The TSL is a very "underrated amp". There are so many TSLs that have been abused that they get a bad reputation. I have had mine since 1998 and it is a amp I would never sell (TSL100).

Totally agree. I love mine. It's not too different than the standard. Some people hate it and some people love it. The clean channel it's good. The reverb that it has it's great in clean channel. It's not the best amp of the world but isn't bad. Could sell some of my amps but never the TSL100.
