Lament - recorded with the DSL1

Postby Alpeggio » 10 Oct 2012, 06:30

Hi guys,
For this recording I used an old backing track from the 1998 Guitarest mag.
I played my Yamaha SG3000 into the DSL1 DI, and the reverb came from the desk.
This was a test of string bends, pre-bends and left hand vibrato.
Hope you like it,
Al

Thanks gtrman and plexi for taking the time to reply.
Glad you liked it.
The master and gain was on 7, which gave enough sustain and a fat tone.

Thanks GuitarBuilder, this was the Ultra gain channel. The classic gain channel is very clean, and even with gain maxed it couldn't come close to this sound.
Classic gain does though, have a wonderful woody tone on single coil tap on my Yam SG.
I love both channels, but there is quite a gap between them in terms of gain from where classic ends and ultra begins, so an OD pedal could be used on the classic channel to bridge the gap.

Thanks sikter, you wouldn't think I'm an old shredder. These days though I find just as much joy playing blues rock.

Very sweet. Did you use the emulated output to capture the amp?

Thanks Cousin Muely and Surf for your valued feedback. Yes I used the emulated line out, straight into the mixer, where the lexicon reverb was added, and then into the PC using good quality cables to minimize losses.
I had to EQ the mixer; treble+4db, mids-4db, and bass+4db , and the deep button was on at the amp. I would imagine you guys would do better, I'm just a player really.

Seriously I enjoyed that. I listened to it at work on my cell with headphones. Later i was walking to get some lunch and thought i had a good melody going on in my head. Was thinking "Hmmmm might do something with that when i get home" Then later i realized that was kinda what you had done on your demo....HAHAHA

Glad Surf thought to ask you about the Emulated out. Sounded great and i liked the tone.

Thanks for sharing that Cousin Muely! very kind of you, and I'd love to hear what you can do too!
The backing track though is way better than I could have done, and gives the track a more professional sound.
