I use Dunlop Pearloid Mediums and Heavys and I have to say I've never worn a pick out before I lost it! Also, I tried once to see if I could wear one out sawing on Ernie Ball .11-.52s all my might picking sharply on downward angles for more than an hour to the point where I broke the B string yet the pick didn't have a single scratch on it that I could see.

To boot, my tone was harsh as an ice pick from picking so hard. If someone is wearing out heavy picks that fast, I sure as shit wouldn't want to be sitting in front of their speakers for long! :smash

I recently switched to Tortex .73 as .50 were too soft and I didn't pick properly with them...

I used those for a while and they were ok but they don't seem to allow for that glassy edge sound I get when using the Dunlop Pearloid mediums or heavys. Try some and see what I mean.

I use the Dunlop Tortex Jazz picks sharp points. I use the lights mostly and sometimes mediums (depends on what i can find locally, no one carries jazz picks near me :cuss ) I not a lighthanded strummer, but Im not heavy handed either. I also play several hours a day. I tend to lose them before i wear them out. If the lights hold up well im sure some of the heavier ones will do even better.

I used to use the Dunlop Tortex thin picks in my metal days (oh so long ago). I used to literally rip them in half! I thought I was hot shit! :doh :laugher :roll

JD 500 : 0.71mm and 0.96mm
JD Big Stubby 2.0mm

Tip I got from my old guitar teacher:

This works best with "thinner" picks, real heavy one's, like the Big Stubbies don't agree with this method.

If you have thick synthetic carpet in your house/rep. room, you can "sharpen" your picks by rubbing the point of the pick on the carpet.
The friction allows you to shape it a little bit.

Doesn't work when they look like Lordakamai's "after 2 weeks" picks. :no

My trick is to buy around 50 picks at a time. I change to a fresh pick every day and use all of them two or three rounds. That way I always have picks of pretty much the same shape. I do this because I hate changing from a worn to a fresh. And I only need to buy picks three or four times a year.

I never change my pick, I bought one about 1.5 years ago and it is still going very very strong. Not a mark on it.
