Peavey Fury bass project

Postby Blues_N_Cues » 18 Feb 2014, 04:25

a friend gave me this years ago & I'm finally getting around to restoring it.
it's a 1994 Fury 4 according to the SN.
the list-
new tone pot & .47uf cap
redo the pickguard in black
re-chrome the bridge
black pickguard screws & black dome knobs
new truss rod end nut
possibly new input jack
new gig bag or case

ok I got it mostly done but....
I have the new pots, wiring, input,& cap in & all the connections are good but when I hit an open string I have a buzz like it's not grounded. it's only when the open string is ringing w/ no hand on the bass.

there is no buzz when it's just sitting there & there is no buzz when hitting a fretted note.
It doesn't sound like a microphonic pickup & there is no buzzing any other time.

any ideas.

n/m I got it fixed so here's the rundown.
took everything apart & cleaned it
painted the pickguard that had overspray on it from God knows when
new knobs
new Mojotone (CTS) 250k pots
.1uf cap
new Switchcraft jack
all new wiring
all new screws
it's still a rat bass though.lol
waiting on the truss wrench to arrive so I can do that and I might redo the tuning keys in black.
