What is your oldest piece of gear?

Postby Spotted Dog » 08 Jun 2009, 16:31

I imagine there are some prime examples of vintage gear owned by the members of this forum. (I'm betting the "Amp Whore" has the oldest piece. :bgrin ) This will be easy to beat, but my oldest piece is a blond Gibson 335 w/ a dot neck from 1982.

the oldest piece of gear i have is a laney amp from 1997!!! :laugh iv only had it bout 4yrs tho!

but i just tore it apart for parts for my diy tube amp project!! it was working fine and i basically took it apart for the plug socket and power switch!!! :party it sounds shit anyway! so i plan on convertin it from a 2x12 combo to a 2x12 cab.

Hmmm i wonder how much that fender twin is worth?? :think i dont know alot about fenders but id say its worth quite a bit?

Wow, my oldest equipment is probably one of those itty bitty little Marshall amps that you can clip on your belt and it's only from about 2000!!! :wasted
I usually sell off my old stuff that I don't use anymore.

The oldest gear I have is from 2003 which are 4x12 cabinets. Everything else is newer than that. I had a rather large sale of gear about 7 years ago where all my old gear used during my gig days got sold, mostly rack gear and 12 guitars.

When I built the studio I totally changed the gear I use and tried to only buy what I would really use. There is some stuff I should have kept but it was fun to buy all new gear.

I am not the original owner of MXR. The pedal is vintage 70s though.

Yea, still counts. I'm not the original owner of my Twin either. I was -4 when it was made. I am the second owner though (third if you count the music store it was sold to and whom I got it from).

When I got it it was 100% original (except the tubes of course). Over time I've had the chord changed to a grounded one, the stand-by switch replaced, had to replace a few caps & changed the pilot jewel from red to blue. I still have all the original parts locked away in ziplock baggies. It sounds better than you think and is actually very reliable for its age.
Realistically, I could probably get about $2000 for it. Double what I payed. Not really that much though when you consider the reissues are selling for a little over $1600. Doesn't seem right but I don't care. I love it and have no plans of selling it.

You sold 12 guitars? Holy crap!
Yep and here thay are, these are all the guitars I had bought through the years when I had ideas of being a rock star :ball kick When I started to build my studio I was very specific as to what I wanted to use so I sold all of them. Some brought very suprising price tags.

1968 Gibson Melody Maker
1979 Fender 25th Ann Strat
1974 Gibson Les Paul Standard
1981 Gibson Les Paul Custom
1984 Jackson Soloists
Couple of mid 80s Ibanez guitars (RG somethings)
1977 Gibson Explorer (my main gigging guitar for years)
1968 Gibson SG Double neck EDS-1275
1980 Guild S-300(this was a great guitar I should have never sold)
1986 Fender Japaneese Strat
1999 Carvin DC400
My Gear
Surf's Jukebox

Nice to see that ad, that is the one I regret selling. I think I only got $400 for it anyways. The guitar really sounded good and played fantastic. I miss the Explorer a bit also but it had some high miles on it.

Even though my current lineup is strange there is not a single genre I can't cover with them. They all sound great and play good. I still find myself looking at guitars but it doesn't make sense anymore to have more than I need. I guess with anything I buy for music I go for quality over quanity. If I were a bit more selfish the guitars below would be bought today.

2008 Gibson Les Paul Summer Jam
2009 Gibson Explorer Shred X
Fender Robin Trower Strat
Fender Billy Gibbons Telecaster
PRS Santana
2009 Jackson Soloist
My Gear
Surf's Jukebox
