good quality blank CD-Rs ????

Postby Blues_N_Cues » 09 Jan 2015, 05:45

I was having some problems w/ Memorex CD-R (mine are 40x) cds for a long time. they would sometimes play on the computer but not in the car & sometimes not even on the computer so I went & did some research. it turms out that these have a failure rate of between 15-40% on average according to a lot of reviews & I have found this to be true.

for a long time I couldn't figure out whether it was my DAW or another CD burning program that I use since it was intermittent.
one pack would have a fe bad ones but other packs would be over 50% useless.

does anyone have a better brand that they use?
for me they need to be 40x

my burner/player is a-
TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-H663B ATA Device.
keeping it loud- JMP-1 rack,LPs,strats,& way too much other gear.

Strange, I've never noticed any difference between any brands of CD or DVD, though I only deal with data discs.

I have never noticed any differences in media. That used to be the case years back, but not nowadays. It might be your burner, lasers do get weak over time after use. It is possible there’s a drive adjustment on your lens assembly, but you’re getting into the weeds on that.

I’d clean the lens. That means taking it apart and hitting the lens with a q-tip and isoprophyl alchohol. Cleaning discs don’t cut it.

Regarding the media, I always buy from Meritline. Best place around. I like buying the blank media that’s either just chrome, or white, where you aren’t being BLASTED by advertising from the mfgr. I’ve never had an issue with any of it.

Hello everyone.. i think that
Hard Drives as well as Flash drives will and do fail, but a properly burned CDR, or DVD+R correctly stored provide a better measure of surety of longevity for your music, or any other data you want to archive.
