Express is the watered down version, this is marketing. They suck you in with the cheap stuff and make it frustrating enough so you upgrade to the real deal.

Be careful picking your DAW, and once you do stick with it. Many guys use Cubebase, Logic, Pro Tools and so on, I am a SONAR guy and won't use anything else. The learning curve is so big that the longer you stay with it the more you know how to master it. Switching now would be like learning a foreign language.

Express is not a castrated money maker. There used to be a comparison chart on Apple's website but I can't find it anymore. This is from another forum
Logic Express 9 is actually the same as Logic Pro 9 - without the following features:
- DAE/TDM support
- DAP (distributed audio processing with Logic Node)
- Surround
- EVP88
- EVB3
- EVD6
- Sculpture
- Space Designer
- Delay Designer
- Linear Phase EQ
- Match EQ
- Multipressor (there is only the 'Preset Multipressor' as in LE7/8)
So mostly stuff you won't miss I'd assume. I'm happy with Express. (I have been playing with some Wave plugins but actually Logic brings everything you need)
