Switching to 4 Ohm Load on 2266 Head

Postby Tele » 03 Apr 2013, 06:17

Had I known this forum existed, I would'nt have pestered the guys at another one :roll

I have a 2x12 4 ohm cabinet which is wired in parallel and will remain so. I need to relocate the wire tap from either the 8 ohm position OR the 16 ohm position over to the 4 ohm blade.
Here's the million dollar question:

Why does everyone say to move the '16' to the 4 ??? I want to keep the '16' ohm position for when I use one of my 425s.
Since I absolutely NEVER use both 425s together with the 2266, that means the switch at '8' is also NEVER used.
If I move the '8'wire to the '4' ohm blade, will that be perfectly acceptable or, will something horrid happen??

This way, I get to keep my head assembled and with the flip of the switch run whichever flavor of cabinet I want out of my mini arsenal.
Is it safe to do so OR is it only the '16' ohm wire to be moved???

If'n the occasion arises where both 425 cabs need to be used then, out comes the 2466. Thanks for your reading!

I agree!
It is designed that way so you could adjust it to your needs (read cabinets).
Anyway I don't think it's dengerous to put higher load then required for the amps output.
But load must not be less then required. Still I always try to match them equaly ( 4 to 4, 16 to 16) when possible.
Using marking tapes is always better than remembering.

Thanks ... reading is essential :sorry I found my answers on the FAQS page here, and, you guys all confirm it. So be it!!! 8 ohm switch with wire crossed over will now happily fuel my 4 ohm cabinet AND, I will use tape as a reminder :clap .
OK OK OK ... I'll post a pic of the Tele and a sound clip with this twin 12, 4 ohm cab with the 2266 at the helm in the next day or so. Gotta keep the natives happy ... :ntworth
