Marshall 1960AX 4x12 speaker torn?

Postby sonofdavros » 02 Sep 2015, 02:36

I've had my Marshall 1960AX 4x12 less than 2 years, and never played above half volume (JTM45). However, on low frequency notes, it's started making a yucky distortion noise. I thought it was the amp, but after plugging into my friend's cab, the noise wasn't there. He said it very much sounded like one of my speakers was torn.

Firstly, I'm really surprised and disappointed that this has happened with an expensive cab like this. Has anybody else experienced this with a 1960AX?

Secondly, is nail varnish the best way to effect a repair?

Thanks
Andy

The speaker might just be loose. Open the cab up a re-tighten all the mounting bolts and test.

Finally got around to looking at it just now - been very busy. Well, I think I have fixed it - a paper label had fallen onto one of the cones. After removing it, I could not hear the bad sound any more, so fingers crossed! :bgrin

I've had my 1960BX for some time now and no problem. Nice you got it fixed.
