Technical Advice-VM and SV20

I have not given up on the idea of getting the SV20. I have a Marshall 425A 412 cab that runs mono or stereo and a 2266VM.

My plan is to get an ABY switcher to toggle between amps. Am I correct that the correct set up would be to set the cab to stereo, set each amp to 8 ohms and run each amp cable into the 8 ohm jack? I do not plan to run the amps simultaneously ie stereo. This set up would effectively run each amp into 2 speakers, correct?

I am now running the 2266 at volume 6 with body at 6 and detail at 8. Bass is usually pretty low. Will ‘this setting overwhelm two speakers?

Lastly, any recommendations on a good quality ABY switcher? I assume I plug the guitar into the switcher and switcher into my pedal board?

Thanks.

I would think the cab should be ok. A Boss line switcher should do the job.

Should work fine.

There are many ABY pedals out there

The Radial Big Shot-ABY is supposed to work well for this type of application for not too much money. You can use it for A or B or A and B. It also has ground and polarity switches that other ABY pedals do not.

You can also find very low cost ones like Joyo brand for about 1/4 the price.

I have used the 425 cab like this before and I opened the cab up and changed the wiring so that instead of 2 speakers 1 top 1 bottom per side- switched the wires to where stereo use was in an X pattern. May have had to turn two of the speakers a little to make the wires reach, cant remember. Anyway, to me it made a fuller sound in an X pattern compared to stock.

Only draw back I can see with running in X pattern is if you use both amps at the same time and use stereo effects like stereo chorus, delay etc. you may not notice the stereo effect as well.

[SD] Correct. Set the impedance switch on the VM to 8 ohms and use either of the output jacks

[SD] The 2266 is actually about 30W and the two speakers would be 50W handling. So it's fine

Thanks guys. Now I just have to decide on pulling the trigger on the SV and whether to go combo or head.

Despite my concerns about the 425A cab, I pulled the trigger on the SV20H last night. I also ordered a Weber MiniMass 50. I’ll give them a shot. If I like what I hear I’ll add the A/B/Y pedal later. As is always the case when I order something new, the current rig sounds extra good the next day. The VM with the PRS 594 sounded glorious today. I thought buying a Kemper would cover up this rabbit hole?
