GAS -Radial Headload V8 Speaker Load Box with Cab Simulator

Postby surfnorthwest » 02 Aug 2015, 06:59

I am a big fan of Radial Engineering products, they are useful tools of the highest quality. Now they release the "Headload" which allows you to negate using a cabinet for both recording and recording direct. I have used their JDX box for years but now you can tweak it right.

The really cool thing is you have six different cabinet simulation voicing and they ability to set the bass and treble EQ in those voicing.... sold. The unit also has an attenuator which I hate and probably would not use but for some would be a nice feature for live performance.

- Load box, direct box, speaker simulator, and phase aligner for electric guitar amplifiers
- Adjust the wattage of your amplifier, for cranked-amp tones at lower volume levels
- JDX direct box with speaker simulation and 2-band EQ for outstanding direct tones
- Phazer phase-alignment tool helps align the direct tone with a microphone signal
- Keep your stage volume down while sending the PA a high-quality direct signal

Also Radial is about to release a smaller version of this unit for half the price.

Everything Radial does I think they do well. I wouldn't be surprised if the attenuator works better/differently than most people think it should/will. I.E, it could do better at simulating an actual speaker load. As far as I know, when speakers are driven, the ohms load isn't constant. It will fluctuate as the speaker is driven. They might have incorporated some of the science into the design. It sure would be nice anyway.

The large format version is too rich for my blood, but I am interested to see what the small version weighs in at, price wise. It would be nice to record my '800 at home without being a pain to the wife and kids.
