Celestion Vintage 30???

Postby Green » 20 May 2009, 12:52

I´ve heard and read that the V30 is spiky in the top and lack mids, is that really true?

I´m planing on buying a Marshall 1936V (2X12 Celestion Vintage30) for my 2266-head. I´ve also read that when they break in they get smooth and just great. I can´t drag around a 4X12 at my gigs and I supose a 2X12 is´nt that loud and move that much air so it should be perfect for me. Any toughts about that combo?

I´ve played through a 1960 4X12 cab with G12T-75, lot of treble and bass, less mids. I don´t like that upper treble, precence thing. I like mids, not plonky mids though, once again, any toughts??

I love the vintage 30s with any tube Marshall. Who ever told you Vin 30s have no mids does not know what their talking about, Vin 30s have great mids. The G12T-75 will not sound good with the VM.

:no
2x12s are just as loud as 4x12s, just not as full sounding. I have an Avatar 2x12 and it's DAMN LOUD!!!

I have a pair of V30's in my 2x12. works fine. I don't really care for that whole spikey mid term, not accurate IMO. I would describe it as a very present speaker that smooths out when abit when it gets driven hard. The presence that bothers some, allows others to cut through. Quite nicely I think.

I bought a used 1936 with the 75s. I hate the 75s. I put in two G12H30s that sounded much better. It was still missing something, I traded one of the G12H30s for a V30, and it is perfect. It has a very nice balance with the mix of V30 and G12H30.

Great thing too was it cost in total $260, after selling the 75s.

The G12H30s mixed with Vintage 30s is the sweet spot.

Hmm, what is the difference of the G12H30s and the G12H30 Heritages?
Are they the same but one costs almost twice as much or what?

Heritage speakers are supposed to be like an exact copy of the original G12H30 and is rated at 25w. The Anniversary model is rated at 30w and is a modern take on the original.

So you are not talking about the Heritages, they are maby almost the same as the Anniversary!?

I´m waiting for my Marshall (1936V 2 X Vintage30) to arrive. I´ve decided to go for it, two Vintage 30, don´t know what to expect.... I can always swap one of the V30s for a G12H30.
Thanks everybody :cool

basically what the heritage series are is a vintage spec speaker. when they originally came out they wer manufactured in a certain way and over time the manufacturing process slowly evolved so that the G12H/G12M of today is not the same speaker as was the originals all them years ago. the heritage series recaptures the spec of the original 60's speakers.

I got my 1936V and I´ve played a couple of weeks with it. What a difference, I love the Vintage 30s.
Now I got that Marshall bark, the mids are there but smooth, not plonky. Sounds best loud in a band situation.
Don´t know if they´re broken in yet but I´m happy. Sounds much better than my boomy old 1960 cab.
I plan on putting a salt ´n pepper front on it just for cools and then I´m ready to go.

Me and my band had a gig last friday and it was the first time to really take my 2266 and 1936V for a ride.
IMO it was the best live sound I ever had, just a couple tweeks on the dynamic ranges between songs, very simple!
I used a TS-808, Fulltone Fat-Boost, Fulltone Deja-Vibe,Boss DD-3 and a Vox Wah. I was in HDR
with Detail on 4-6 and Body 2-4, Midboost ON. EQ pretty much 5 on all. Master at 4 in the beginning of first set
and at 6 on the last five songs :party The overdrive, boostpedals are used to get more gain if needed.
We play everything from blues to pop to hardrock and the VM delivered, I say it again :love LOVE IT!!!!
By the way I´m the only guitarplayer/singer in the band and it sounded fat.

This forum is great, it feels like you all are my buddys, cheers :Cheers
