Hellatone 60Ls

Postby slowpokerhino » 08 Jun 2009, 15:48

Hey Surf, I know you have these in a 4x12 with the 30s, but do you think they'd be a decent match in a 2x12 with the VM? My spending has to stop for now & I still need speakers. I could sell my Timmy (which I really don't use much) and get them. The Scumbacks will have to wait.

I bet a Hellatone 30 & 60 mix would sound pretty killer. It's supposed to be a magical comination. :bannana

Yes, they would.

I think two 60Ls would work out great too. I had a pair in a 2x12 and they sounded really good. Terrific bang for the buck on the eBay auctions. I missed out on getting another pair when I was buying speakers, the auction ended at $94. I had won an auction for $100 before that.

The 60L and H30 combination is very tasty. It allows for fantastic mids and bass as well as that classic thump when you attack a string. I have tried many different speakers and honestly there are pros and cons with all speakers. The difference in this combination is I cannot honestly think of any cons.

What I mean by that is for rock, blues, or shimmering cleans the combination sounds great at whatever you throw at them.

For the $99 charge for any Hellatone that is already broke in has to be considered when shopping for new speakers.Two of my three 4x12 cabinets now have this combination, I may even convert the third one later.

I would love to go with that but I don't think I can with the 2466 & a 2x12 cab. :roll

The "L"s have a slightly larger center dust cap that gives them a little more bass and slightly smoother mids.

Well you could (you would be real close at 90 watts) but I won't recommend anything that might hurt the amp. You could also go with a Lead 80 and a G12H30, you would have some nice headroom and tone with that combination plus 110 watts

You need to supersize to a 4x12 someday where you can mix the two, plus a 4x12 looks much better and sounds fuller.

You mean like the 425a I sold shortly after getting the 2x12? :deney

I guess I'm in the minority but I prefer 2x12s. Always have. Didn't care for the G12Cs either, the mids were nice but the lows were too flabby & not enough highs. :violin

I thought that when you combine speakers of different wattages the result is that of double the lowest speaker?
1 60 + 1 30 = 60?

yeah well they will be the same impedance so the wattage will be split evenly. so yal gat 50 watts to each, which will be too much for the 30 watter.

ya could use a 16ohm for the 30watt and an 8ohm for the 60watt. this would send one third the power to the 30watt and two thirds to the 60 watt, so ya wont blow the lower speaker.....only problem is ya mite blow the Output transformer!! :laugher :laugher

Depends on whether it is series or paralell wiring.

no it doesnt. that is only for the overall impedence but wattage doesnt work like that. it depends on the impedence of each speaker. and if the impedence is the same for each then it will be split 50/50 whether in series or parrallel.

for example the speakers mentioned above...16ohms each and in parrallel. overall impedence is 8ohms but each speaker is the same impedence so will disipate the same power each. 50watts so the 30watt speaker goes BOOM!!!

same as above but in parallel. overall impedence is now 32ohms, but each speaker still has the same individual impedence and will dissipate the same power, 50watts each. 30watt speaker gone again!!!

in power handling, all series parallel does is effect the over all impedence, not the power distribution. it will effect the voltage/current levels within the OT and speakers and that is why ya have to match to overall impedence so as not to fry the OT. so for a fixed power output, if overall load is reduced, you have to drive it with more current or voltage to get the full power but it wont increase power. and it will not govern how much power each speaker gets.

power = V^2/R
or
power = i^2xR

power(total) = (i^2xR1) + (i^2xR2)
etc. etc.
