VM 2266 and 1936 experiences anyone?

Postby nilsO » 14 Jul 2009, 16:44

Hi there! I bought a VM this night and am wondering if anyone has any experiences with the VM and 1936 cab?
A little bit because of the handy size (and the price) of the 1936.

(Am planning to play it the Jeff Beck way with a strat and a jazzmaster with Seymour Duncan p-rails (singlecoils,p90 and humbuckers in one)
And combining clean jazzy chords with solos that can make the amp sing with harder attack/volume control)

The VM works very well with the 1936, but the general feeling is that you will need to change the speakers, the stock ones just don't cut it.
If you are using the 2466 head you will need to watch the wattages of the speakers you choose (at least 50 watts each). If so, I'd highly recommend the Celestion Classic Lead 80 speakers. I just put them in my 1936 and I'm loving them. The Vintage 30s are a popular choice also (you can get the 1936v cab which already comes with v30s).

I've used the 1936 cab with the VM for about 2 years and am very happy with the combination. Slowpokerhino is right, you will need to change the speakers. Cruise the forum for some good tips. I use Eminence Red Fangs, but for what you want to play I'm not sure the're the ones for you. My only complaint is the cab seems very directional. Very focused. But they do look good together.

I use my 2266 occasionally thru my 1936. It sounded terrible with the G12T-75s, even well broken in. I put in two G12H30s and it was a huge improvement. I swapped one of the G12H30s out for a V30, and it is perfect. I have the 1936 as an open back, and it sounds great with my DSL50 and 2266. It has more bottom end than my 425A.
You can't go wrong with greenbacks, or vintage 30s, or other celestions suggested (except for those damn G12T-75s), and I have read many good things about Eminence Patriot and Red Coat lines.
Crossroadsnyc douche of the year, and everyone at TGP tied for 2nd

Similar experience to mine. I've used a 1922 2x12 cab (same as 1936 but just smaller cab) with the 2266c combo and the stock 75w speakers actually took some clarity away from the overall sound, rather than adding to it so the combo sounded better on its own with just the 2 G12C speakers. On the verge of going down the G12H30 route myself for the cab as i've been quite impressed with various sound samples I've heard.
