Hellatones .vs Alnico Gold clip

Postby surfnorthwest » 29 Aug 2009, 12:12

As promised here is a short clip of the 2466 with the Hellatone cabinet and the Alnico Gold cabinet. To set the stage the Hellatone cabinet clip is played first followed by the same riff using the Celestion Alnico Gold cabinet second. The Hellatone cabinet has two G12H and two Vin30s (Hellatone 30s and 60Ls)

The 2466 was in high range using NO effects, straight into the amp. Here were my settings

Reverb - off
Pres -3
Master 6
Bass - 7
Mids 5
Treb 5
Mid Boost in
Detail 6
Body 2

Les Paul w/57s

What mic did you use Surf, and where did you have them placed?

The mic is discussed in the link below, the mic was simply about 8 inches back direct to the speaker.

Ok, I didn't know if you used that new mic or not. Glad you did so that I could have a listen to how it sounds. Those Golds have a lot of bite to them!

The nice thing about that mic is you record the same signal on two tracks (one for the condensor and the other for the dynamic) which allows you to do some nice studio tricks with panning and effects. I have no issue in exclusivly using this new mic over the SM57, it is simply a better mic for guitar cabinets.

Those celestion gold speakers sound killer, but for what they cost they better give you something noticable over the every day greenback.

I think Golds sounded really much more richer, 3D, boutique. But the Hellatones where more suitable for heavier genres for sure...

But that's just my opinion :)
