Yesterday I traded my ipod and $100 for a Huges & Kettner 4x12 cab with 60 watt each Celestion G12f's. I must say first that this cab is mind blowing on Dynamic High and Low, but on the low range when I try to clean up theres massive ghost note syndrom, my playing sounds clear 100% of the time but theres a ghost bass note that makes the cleans sound flabby while still sounding very good.
I know some speakers display ghost notes and some don't but my question is... could it be the speakers haven't been broken in properly prior to me getting the cab? I guess the guy never played the cab loud. My Jensen 40 year old Jensen C12n cab did not do the ghost note thing and my Jensen mod 12-50s did do it but stopped after the break in period. This cab was used with a 100 watt solid state head prior to me buying it, it sounds amazing but theres that flabby ghost bass note thats pretty prominent in the low range.
I did try both cabs back and fourth to rule out the low and high range pre amp tubes. These speakers sound great I just hope this ghost note becomes less noticable after a few run ins with my KT66s at 8 on the MV. I ask mainly because I never dealt with Celestions before and I'm wondering if they have a slight flabby nature prior to break in? The sound behind the ghost flab is very expressive and full of life! and displays the wonderfull character of the Vintage Modern very well.
The first thing I did when I got it home, was I ripped that Huges & Kettner plate off and put my extra Marshall plate on the front :-)
