Eminence Red Fang....considering a switch

Postby Green Manalishi » 14 Nov 2009, 10:24

After getting an amp with a Celestion Alnico Blue, I am considering getting other Alnico speakers to go with my VM. I currently use a 2x12 with G12H30 and V30 mix. Running the VM thru the Blue (kept at low volume) I like the overall tone of the Blue better, the highs and mids were better, just less of the lows.

Locally, there is somone selling a pair of 50W Red Fangs, supposedly Blue Clones from Emi, anyone try these?

I know Surf really liked the Alnico Golds with the VM, but I can't afford that much right now.

I use 2 30 watt Red Fangs in a 1936 cab w/2266 head.
I like them a lot. Even over the vintage 30's. Didn't know they made a 50 watt version . Probably just trying to keep up with the Gold model.

I know Surf really liked the Alnico Golds with the VM
The Alnico Golds sound awesome with any amp, they are simply a very good speaker. But I still do not use that cabinet with my VM, I hold that the Greenbacks are the correct speaker for the KT66 sound. I currently use my DrZ amp with the Alnicos.

Again I have tried personally many different speakers with the VM and the Greenbacks come out on top with IMO the Lead 80s. If I were gigging with the VM in medium size venues I would use the Lead 80s. Before I would shell out that kind of jack for those speakers I would want to be very sure.

WOW on those prices. Yes they are alnico's but sheesh. Bout 3-4 years ago I was getting Texas Heats and Govnors for about $50.00 shipped from Avatar. Those days are gone and I no longer have any as they went into amps that are no longer here. If my crystal ball wasn't bust, I would've order up a couple dozen back then. :doh :doh :doh

I'll bet some Fangs would be cool, If some fell my way, I'd install em no doubt.
