A B Custom Speaker Cabs...Anyone?

Postby ironlung40 » 21 Dec 2009, 18:28

I'm thinking of ordering an empty 4x12 from these guys, and then loading it with my 2 vintage 30's and 2 GT-65's. Anyone have any experience from this cabinet maker and this speaker config?

I've heard of Avatar too, but it seems their prices have gone up and I'm not sure of the quality of these "no name, so to speak" builders. I basically want the best wood at the best price available.

would I be better served buying a used marshall 4x12 cab, or are these no name builders using better quality wood?

Doesn't get much better than Baltic Birch. Great prices too. I say go for it (of course it's not my money).

I had one of their cabs, but recently sold it. It was a fine cab, I sold it only because the size wasn't big enough for a full size Marshall head. It was not quite on par with an Avatar, but sounded much better than the 1936 I had. Great prices too.

Thanks for the comments.

Green, what configuration was your cabinet? The 4x12's that I'm looking at are 29x29x14 inches. Whereas a Marshall 1960 is 29x32x14. I would assume that the A B would be big enough for a full size head at 29x29x14, right?

I had the 2x12, it was 27.5 inches wide. It was fine for an 18 wztt head I had, but after I sold the head, I sold the cab. Fine cab, really.

Aren't Marshall heads 29.5" wide?
