My New Sour Mash 2x12 Cab

Postby Green Manalishi » 22 Jan 2010, 18:14

Just got it today, and it is a really nice cab, it looks great and is well made. Good price too! It sized the same as a 1936, except it is 3" or so shorter. This is the vintage style, he can also make it modern style with no corner piping and with the plastic corners, he uses actual Marshall corners too.

Very nice cab, if you were looking at one and are on the fence, I would say go for it.

Nice. I saw your post that a 1936 was "no comparison". Is the main difference the back panel? (I could easily change the panel on my old 1936?)

Also, do you think that brace affe

nrace affects tone, or its mainly structural. (sorry, tripped the netbook mouse pad in the dark)

The 1936 I had was all MDF, all sides, front baffle and back. This new cab is all plywood, and it really sounds better. It is also lighter. I don't think the back panel only being MDF makes that much of a difference, but when the cab is all MDF, it is a big difference.
I am not sure of the brace has an effect on tone, it might, since the cab is definitely solidly put together.

It was $245 with casters, plus the cost of speakers, which he charges $55 for your choice (other than the Alnico) of WGS speakers. I chose the 55hz Reapers (G12H30 Heritage clones) and they sound really good. I had a pair of the Green berets, and they were really good too.
He can do custom options as well, like tolex, grillcloth, etc.
He does sell on eBay too.

Just to give an update in case you were thinking of buying from this guy, the cab is a well made cab, but their service leaves a lot to be desired. They screwed up my order intially, I wanted a convertible back, they sent it closed back. So after a month wait, I go a 2nd back panel that was open back. It came unfinished. No screwholes or even a cutout for the jack plate. I'll have to do that myself, but I thought that's what I paid them for.
But what's worse, the guy responds to me like a jerk, an unprofessional email to a customer.
Frankly, a better choice is Avatar, better cabs, and definitely better service.
