Whilst many guitarists might be jealous of BonamASSa, I can tell you straight up: he’s a total cock.
I’ve worked with him. Arrogant, cocky, prideful, derivative. And no soul.
Yeah yeah, he’s got good tone and tasty licks, but he’s an asshole whose music leaves me lacking..... just endless recycled Cream and Gary More licks.
I’m glad Kirk Hammett outbid him for the Green/Moore Les Paul - that taught the arrogant little shit a lesson in humility
I agree with you in that he's technique heavy over expression.
In blues rock, the ideal would be the other way round.

Derivative is inevitable for this genre, but you can always recognise his playing which is a good thing.

He deserves the success he has, paid for with hard work. He's nonstop recording albums, playing live, and trying new old gear and rigs.

Again, I'll admit that I'm a fanboy. I have never met him but I have seen him live, I've watched a ton of his interviews and I have talked to people that have met him. I imagine that he's somewhat of a guitar-playing Sheldon Cooper. If you watch the RAH videos, though, you clearly see a human. Look at the backstage clips and as he takes the stage playing "Django." That is the look of a man who is humbled by the moment in which he exists, and is trying to reassure himself that he should be there. As a club musician, isn't it nice to know that professionals still feel that?

I liked Joe's Vienna oppera house acoustic show. A lot of his electric stuff sounds repetative to me but a fine guitarist none the less. What really pisses me off is that many manufacturers use the signature model ploy to sell stuff at a rediculously high price. Most have don this at some time or another.
I read once a report on how much it actually costs to make equipment and instruments today ( I don't rember if it was guitar player or somewhere else.) but manufacturing is way more efficient than before. The markup is huge. Often a limited edition Signature model means they took something they already made and tweaked it. Collecters and wannabees will buy them up! It would be great to see a super star put their name on something most of us can afford.
