The Twin has now been officially retired to a life of luxury relaxing in its road case. I will still use it occassionally (recording?) but it has earned its keep. 44 years is a pretty good run IMO.

NAD??!!!

:laugher :laugher :laugher :laugher :laugher

Love mine, a reissue, it IS loud as you have likely learned. It takes pedals really well, and of course LOVES strats.

Yea, it definitely does favor my Strat. As far as loud. It is, but not nearly as loud as the Twin (or 2466). I had it on about 8 and was getting really sweet breakup and the tone was nice and warm and surprisingly big. This amp is not nearly as bright as the Twin, which is why I think it sounds better with the Strat than the LP.
I'm having a tough time dialing in the Hardwire ODs with it. They don't seem to color the tone much (if at all) with the VM & Twin but definitely do with the Super. I'm really enjoying the straight in tone for now.

Congrats on the amp !!

Funny thing is i am going to have a NAD too.
I sold my vernet FLV45 since i do not want a les paul no more.
I am having a hard time between to very opposite type of amps
a JMD-1 ( to get a super versatile amp that can do it all) or
a super reverb ( to get the nicest blues sounds out of a strat)
I know it is nuts but i can not make up my mind so i wait because i
can only spend my money once.
A super reverb and a vintage modern would make a killer rig though :winking

Thanks pillage, I'll keep that in mind. :laugher

bluesbrother, I can't believe you sold the Vernet! Wow! I will say this, the Strat and SR is truly the best clean tone I've ever heard. I'm still working on getting my pedals and LP to sound how I want with it, but the Strat straight in is sonic nirvana.

The clean tone and the reverb are to die for in this clip.
Pedals wil give a dirty tone at lower volumes otherwise just
crank it up. I never had a fender amp before but this would be
my choice also. I mostly play blues and i am a reverb junkie.
The JTM 45 is a awesome amp but not for clean or lower volume .
Do you think a super reverb would sound nice at lower volumes with
a pedal?????
With the Vm in low range i set the MV on 10 and b=5 d=5 and use
a attenuator and the blues tones are there going to high range i set
the MV at 3 oclock and totally rock out with the mid boost in .
Surfnorthwest put a post on the marshall amp forum off all the JMD-1
preamps. Truly his best post ... that amp has some killer crunch and
leadsouns.
For i forget :bgrin ..... the clip

Sure. It has a great low volume clean tone that would be a good foundation for a pedal. Depends on the pedal though, some pedals only sound good with the amp on the verge of breakup (tube screamers).
I got my LP dialed in last night. Sounds awesome! With the Twin I'd never dare turn the treble past about 6 (and was doing the same with the Super) but putting it on 8 really ceared up the LP and gave it that bite I love.
BTW, unlike the Twin the amp pretty much reaches full volume at about 5, after that it just starts breaking up. I like it at 8. It's loud, very loud, but manageable if you use your volume control on the guitar and play in a loud band like I do.
Also, the Derek Trucks trick (pulling the tube from V1) works really well with the Super giving it earlier breakup.

Believe me, that clip sounds like crap compared to the actual amp. You are hearing a lot of mic clipping.

Blues Brother,
Have you tried Dr. Z? Some of his amps are really amazing. My new MAZ 18 NR is a blues machine with a strat. I can get great hot blues tones without blowing the place apart. It may not give you the pristine fender cleans though but close. Dr. Z also makes 6L6 amps that are close to Fender but with more overdrive. Check them out.

Unfortunately , there is no dealer in the netherlands but they can
be ordered in the UK. I never played or heard one in person but there
are alot of you tube clips. Reverb ( a good one is a must) so a EZG50
surf has would be nice . They are topnotch but not cheap though...
The voicing of all the Dr Z amps to my ears all have a kinda woody
country vibe to it... :crazy i cannot really explain this either.
Thanks for reminding me!!

Thanks Faze, I will use those settings to further explore the amp. You are right that the Maz jr is made for a strat. I first tried it out with a LP and loved it but was blown away by the sounds I was getting with a strat. Without pedals you can get a hot blues tone that sounds a lot like Albert Cummings, thick and percussive with a little bit of country twang in the bridge pickup. I hardly ever used my bridge pickup before but this amp is made for all positions on the strat. It also does SRV with no pedals. Put a tube screamer in front and you can do anything SRV can do (if you can play like him). I agree a reverb would be great but they have a reverb version which I have not tried or a good reverb pedal (like Mr. Springy or others) is my next purchase.

I also feel it has enough clean head room for what I like to do and can fill anything but a very large sized club.

Good luck with your quest Blues Brother!

Thanks ,
I have a solemate van amps reverb pedal.
It has a actual spring inside and is completely analog.
Sounds so nice with the VM that i always leave it on .
I can really recommend that one.
