If anyone can RatValveAmps can. They already offer a class 10 conversion with two EL84's and a Valve rectifier.

Would have to change the transformer. At the end of the day it would sound nothing like the C5.

But hey, it can be done. Be better to simply buy a nee SL-5

I'm confused. Bluefrog, are you looking for more clean headroom, or more of the cranked overdrive tone? If you want for overdrive, you could swap to an EL844 power tube. Its super easy and costs ~ $15.00 for the tube shipped.

If you want the C5 clean tone, but louder, then cooler pre-amp tubes might get you there. I get some great jazz tones from my C5 especially with the stock tubes and the volume on about 2 or 3. In about a week or so (I have some recording gear coming in) I'll get to dime my amp with the EL844 powertube and really hear how that sounds :yea

yes it was about the clean headroom,
i swapped the V1 for a 5751 f.e. and I have an EL84M in the pwr section.
I made already some mods to get the class5 opener and tighter sounding.
I am the pre stage. I wd be grateful if I cd go to 4 and be still in the cleans.

Another option is to run the C5 out to a louder slave amp with an effects loop.
