At last got me a Class 5

Postby Peveo » 06 Mar 2013, 12:00

Got myself a present for my brirthday , a Class 5 combo.
Its always fun to act like a child even at 54...... I'm a happy puppy now.

Nice little amp y must say, well little. This thing does make quiet some noise and i' m looking forward to the days to come somy can test this beauty.

Tried the headphone out but that wont be used with a headphone thats for sure.
Y did hear about an option to disconect the internal speaker and connect a separate speaker cable to it so it can be plugged into the external speaker output or the headphone output for less power. Is this true, does anyone knows?
Also, i'm curious how the amp will sound with a Celestion vintage 30 speaker.
And last but not least, some other tubes. Tung sol y guess.

Good days are ahead.. But for now .....a nice belgium beer awaits :beerme
:jam :Netherlands

Later,

Peter

The headphone switch on the back set to headphones without headphones connected is alsothe low power mode. No need to do anything like you said.

Congrats on your purchase. Spend some time with it and get to know it before you start changing things out in it. A lot of players have ultimately found out the amp is pretty stout like it is stock.

Well Cousin, y do think that y have to tweak the amp a bit .
Its a c5 combo and not a c5-01. So it doenst have that low powermode. Thats why.

But , youre right about the fact that the class 5 is an amp quiet impressive on its own.

My bad. I have 4 of them and thought all the combos had the low power mode. Just the heads didn't. Sorry, didnt mean to mislead you.

Do some web searches and you will find how to enable the low power feature on the combo. Basically you remove the existing speaker connection wires to the speaker, attach an external 1/4 inch plug and cable to the speaker, and then plug that 3/4 in to the headphone jack. When you want full power move the plug to the extension speaker output and set the switch to speaker.

The C5 head also has the low power feature, just plug the speaker cab cable 3/4 into the headphone jack and set the switch to "headphones".

Thank you surf..

Last night y fooled around a bit with the amp and must say ......nice, very nice.

But, y found that y did like the volume setting at 4-5 the most. A nice cruncht sound y like the most.
Did play with a humbucker so y wander what it will do with a single.
After 12 o,clock the sound got a bit muddy for my taste, maybe some other tubes will fixx this y dont know.
Y did the speaker fixing thing, ...connected a cable so y can choose between the headphone or external speaker socket using the internal speaker. Although its fine when y conect the speaker to the headphone socket to get some low power , the tone is chanced..and y dont want that.

But , you cant have all y guess.

Nevertheless, its a fun amp
