Linking 2 Class 5 Combos..

Postby Beston1 » 16 Feb 2014, 03:29

Is it possible to link class 5 combo`s together to get a bigger sound (the way Joe Bonamassa did) or is it more hassle than its actually worth?

If so, how would I do it?

Sure! If your running both of them fairly clean then a stereo chorus, delay or reverb pedal would work fine for splitting your signal from your guitar. Another way is use an amp switcher. I use a Voodoo Lab Amp Selector. You can run 4 amps off it if you want. I've used it for the Class 5's in your instance and I use it with the 1 watts. Works very well but they're other brands also. If it were me though, I'd stay away from using Y chords and cheap A/B boxes. Some may have had better experiences but I don't like that method but it is the cheap way to do it if on a budget and you don't already have a stereo pedal.

+1 on the amp switcher. A stereo chorus or reverb will work but the Class 5's don't really have a lot of headroom to support time based effects. Plus, with the amp switcher you could on (or four) up Joe Bonamassa and run as many as you want, provided that you can afford to buy more Class 5's and amp switchers. Shoot, you could push 1000 watts worth of Class 5. As I understand daisy chaining amps, this won't give you more audible volume but it will give you a more full sound and it will give it more throw.
