surfnorthwest wrote:Blah, sounds way to wimpy to me. Give me the 100 watters and damm the neighbors. Even on its higher setting I would not have use for that, very thin and I suspect Chris's playing and technique added to it. Not saying it is a bad amp it's just I would have no use for it.

I would be intersted in a 18-35 watt type amp but it would have to get a much bigger sound than that thing.
i was actually thinkin it sounded fairly fuzzy. more fuzz than crunch. its fairly coincidental this came out actually cos for my next DIY project i was planning to do an 18watt (and i will soon!) but before i get to that iv been looking at a similar type of thing to this. its also a 5watt single ended design but has a 6v6 instead cos i heard that altho el84s excel in push-pull, they dont do quite aswel in single ended designs and can be buzzy, which may explain this amps tone.

here is a clip of something im thinkin of building. its kinda a plexi preamp and 5watt 6v6 ouput section. iv been looking thru DIY forums for idea's and someone gave me this as a possible suggestion.

Honestly I think I am flat spoiled with my amps and cannot give honest opinions anymore on any of these small amps, my bar is set to high. I think I will stick my nose out of these topics from now on. :doh

Jamming at home yes... recording NO ! I don't think I would use this one for recording ... not enough balls !
But a fun bedroom amp ... I might consider it but I already have a better one in the Silver Jubile 2554.

I recommend you try one 'in the flesh' for yourself before you pass judgement.
Don't forget that 5 watts is half the volume of a 50 watt and it has the facility to connect to a 4 x 12 for extra oomph! (technical term :winking )

Sounds like someones trying to outdo the Blackstar HT5! :dance

I was a little worried about buying my Blackstar after what Steve said recently in the small amp thread, but now Im happy with my choice. I may give a Class 5 a whirl though if my local shop gets one in.

Not sure how well this will do as a "bedroom" amp, with only one channel the only way to get a dirty sound is to crank the volume. Thats not my idea of a bedroom amp...

I'm sure it will be LOUD enough but still ... I guess i'll try it out and hear for myself.
I have more than enough other Marshall that I'd rather use for recording purposes. :whatever

Joe Bonamassa was featured in the launch party yesterday. See link. I Joe likes it perhaps it is worth a try. I am looking for a low watt practice amp also.

I'm gassin' now. I just need to decide what to sell. I have a SF VibroChamp that fills this hole for me but I kind of like it's 6V6 bark. I bypassed it's tone controls and replaced the stock speaker. It's a little screamer now. sounds great pushing a 412 cab too. I don't really want to swap it for the Class 5......hmmm...maybe. I could return it to stock and flip it for this. :think
