Quality of sound with headphones??effects???

Postby bluesbrother » 13 Oct 2009, 09:48

I have not tried the class 5 yet.
I do like the option of headphones.
I know a attenuator like the koch loadbox II has a headphones option but that one
is really harsch and unuseable. Koch says use a low quality headphones because a guitar
speaker do not have all the frequences as a full range speaker in your headphones.
Or did marshall someting to solve this??

Since the class 5 does not have a effectsloop i wonder if somebody has experiences
with this amp with the effects in front? ( reverb and delay especially))
Is it even possible to have a effectsloop built in?

If this amp sounds great through headphones and had a effectsloop i would be running to the store by now... :bgrin

If you use delay pedal infront it works great but with volume around 4-5 because if you push it harder it's on the way and repeats are bassy. As far as overdrive pedals I don't like to use them with this amp. The input headroom become airless and overdrive sound just don't get through. It's ok with the boosters (Analogman Beano or Telenordia Treble Booster) but I prefer it with hotter output bridge pickups on my Tom Anderson. I don't agree with Guitarist review that it takes overdrive pedals great. Headphone output is too hot if you want to listen to the amp crunch but it's ok to fidle a guitar late at night.

It very much depends on the headphones themselves just like any speaker cab. The headphone output works particularly well with phones that incorporate an integrated volume control so you can crank the amp and lower the volume externally, for example; -

Still my guitar gently weeps

Thanks ,
Right now i have a koch loadbox II on the way .
With this one i am going to experiment with the VM and the vernet FLV45.
It is a attenuator but also a dummyload when using headphones or direct recording.
