Just bought a Class 5 from an online store..Rattles :(

Postby harkkam » 18 Dec 2009, 14:54

I just bought a class 5 amp from an online website and it rattles badly, every time I push the amp to about 5 or higher it starts to rattle in the back. Im going to drive to the online store's physical location and return it and try out new ones.

Do you think I should just ask for my money back? I love this amp but the rattle is annoying, Has a new shipment arrived that has the rattle problem solved?

Oh btw i live in the Usa...

Hey guys when I go to return it and ask for a post revision unit is there an serial number or something that I can make sure that what Im getting is a post revision unit. I dont want them to like have to open every amp.

Also it says the amp hits the states on Dec 24th but i bought it the 13th from a website online. Does that mean that I got some early model?

Thank guys

Hi mate.
I would say that more than likely you've ended up with one of the older rattlers. Seems to be touch & go with the original version of the C5 re.rattles. Some people don't have problems period, while others develop the rattles over time. You must have gotten a bad one if they haven't been released officially in the US yet.

Would be good if Steve could jump in re. this again and let us know what's going on...

Yeah I hope steve could help me out on this one.

I just need a way to identify the new models the ones that have been fixed a serial number or something. I bet the store is gonna be pissed to find out their whole stock has problems.

I got mine in the states about a month ago, I am currently on number two. I have a third on order, they can't seem to figure out the rattle issue. I truly like the amp, but like you I've been debating if I should go a different route. I'm waiting to see what the third one does then go from there.

I just wish we could get some answers as to the problem, just some serial numbers that have worked a letter. Something because I feel like Im being ignored. I called Korg USA and told me to talk to my dealer. Seems like there isnt any communication between USA division and england.

Hey lets compare serial numbers to see if we can figure something out.

Mine is M-2009-39-0328-2

Oh btw I called marshall amps in england and their offices are closed till jan 4th. Perhaps I could arrange a return from england itself without having to go through these dealers who have the rattle version

This is my second one, which I've had for about two months. I have another on the way because this one rattles.

My numbers are: M 2009-39-07-0772-2 RoHS

I'm in the US.

Where have the been bought from in the states? I thinking about buying one (mainly because of the price), but I'm a little scared, due to this rattle issue...

I bought mine from Ted Brown Music www.tedbrownmusic.com. They are located in Washington State. I have to say that the tone is killer and worth buying. This last one I have doesn't rattle as much as the first, but since it is not rattle free I am having them get me another one. I'm sure Marshall will figure it out, although it would be nice if something official was put out by Marshall with a path forward.

Hey man, is it Ted Brown in Puyallup? Do they have some in stock? I would love to try one out to see if waiting for a resolution to the rattle is worth it.

It looks like they were all made in roughly the same time frame, be it a couple of weeks. Steve would be the one who could say what week of 2009 the revision took place. i.e 2009-??- blah blah!

Has there been a revision? I am not aware of any. All I get is that Marshall are aware of the problem and are looking at possible solutions. Seems to me that if the problem was fixed we'd know, and the amps shipped to the U.S. would not have the buzzing problem, which apparently they do. :dunno

Kongels, they do have a store on the west side of the state but it is in Tacoma, right off I-5. This is their mother store so they may have one. Good luck, hopefully they have one.
