Transformer-different ohm taps?

Postby Dave W » 05 Jul 2011, 15:53

On the Vintage Modern there is the option to unplug the stock ohm configuration from the transformer and switch it. The 2466 comes with a 4,8,16 ohm tap on the transformer and there are 2 plugs to hook up, which at stock they are hooked up to 8 and 16 ohm. You can pull one and attach it to the 4 ohm if desired.

For a Class5, are there different ohm tap options inside the amp-transformer like this?

Looking to possibly pick up a 2-12" cab with each speaker at 16 ohms, thus 16 ohm mono or 8 ohm stereo. The Class5 output is 16 ohms. Just wondering if I can go inside and change it with switchng a plug etc. Thank you.

Nope... your stuck with the stock 16... but the good news is that the C5 can run at 8 Ohms all day long so go get that cab...

My C5 Combo is an issue 4 and has PIN F on the board. It is not hooked up because it is used for the stand alone head with the 8 ohm out.

I am trying like hell to figure a way to have the 16 ohm out switch to the 8 om tap when a cable is inserted and run the internal speaker in parallel with a 16 ohm external. The load should be 8 ohms then. That would be sweet.

Here is the schematic for the issue 6 version of the head. My amp does not have the 8 ohm out but does have Pin F. I want to make my 16 ohm out a parallel connection to the internal speaker and the 8 ohm tap. But stay on the 16 ohm tap when nothing is connected to the ext. spkr. Aaargh.
