MA-50 no output-found problem though

Postby rockstar10 » 08 Nov 2012, 17:29

I own a JVM-215, TSL-100 and picked up a MA-50 and it isn't too bad, I must say. I enjoy playing these amps anyways, I changed out the power tubes in it and now no output at all. So while inside troubleshooting I found that none of the voltages were present on the tubes. So I checked the fuses and they are good and have found the Power transformer has a good 115vac on the primary and no output on the 4 secondaries. Does anyone know where I can find what voltages should be present on the 4 secondaries? Anyone also know where I can get a new power transformer.? I've looked all over online but no-one seems to have this unique Xformer.

thanks for any help you can provide.

You should be able to find the voltages in the schematic: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22429717/MA100_MA50.v.3.pdf

I remember seeing the transformer someplace online, I just forget where. I searched on the the part numbers in the above schematic.

unfortunately it doesn't state the voltages as i already looked at this. And I did search on the part number that it spec'd out but didn't find any online, if you have a location to buy one that would be great.

thx

Sorry, I thought the schematic had the voltages. I could swear I found a place online that sold them, but I can't find it now. You could try calling Marshall to see if they can help with both. You could also call some transformer manufacturers to see if they can help source a transformer.

The only other thing I can think of is to check the solder joints on the PCB. When changed tubes on my MA1000 back in January, I started having some issues with noticeable volume drops. I ended up finding that there were cold solders on the PCB for almost everyone of the tube sockets as well as on the mains and output transformer. Changing the tubes was enough to make them start causing problems. Touching up all the joints with a soldering pencil fixed it right up. Just a thought....

makes sense too since it happened when i put in new power tubes. thx. yet you wouldn't happen to know the voltages on all 4 secondaries of that pwr xformer? that would help me to source a new one. i had emailed mercury mag, they said they could probably make one up for me.(read:$) and Classictone doesn't make this one for a "Hybrid" amp. Ha, shows you they don't know much about this amp.

I never put a meter on the secondaries so I don't know what the voltages are. You could try PM'ing SteveD on these forums. He works for Marshall and would probably know. Failing that, I would give them a call.
