Too bright = too much gain with the master at low?

Tried a MA50C now for a while. Isn't it just really bright when in overdrive? But when I mix clean and crunch i sounds really good.
And many commented. WHen the amp is turned way up. And played in a band. It sounds really good? So when you use less gain it sounds nice and full at low levels. And if needed a boost pedal & graphic eq would help.
I have a feeling this amp has way more gain then most realise...
