Solo boost

Postby SteveD » 08 May 2010, 04:15

I think it's worth mentioning in a dedicated post that the pedal in the loop for a solo boost trick works extremely well with the MA amps. :winking
Still my guitar gently weeps

Sure does for me. I'm using a Fulltone Fat-Boost 3. Works awesome!

Do you use more pedals in front of amp kingbee?
I use Boss SD-1 in gain channel for old school rock, and Vox Satchurator ( this thing is a killer ) on clean boosted by SD-1 for modern type distortion, just makes me play more and more. I am gonna try effect loop thing today to see how it works.

my pedal board right now is: tc electronics tuner > crybaby wah-wah > fulltone fulldrive 2. Effects loop is: mxr van halen phaser > mxr carbon copy delay > fulltone fat-boost 3. Powered by pedal power 2.

BBE Boosta Grande is also a great pedal to be used as a booster no matter what amp.

I am ordering MXR M-108 equalizer for the effect loop, if boss sd-1 makes wonders there then equalizer would be amazing, boost and control of the tone.
This boost trick completely changed my setup, I use Sd-1 in the loop all the time, for solo boost I switch to boosted channel, all the fizzines is gone and what's left is great Marshall tone. This works only at marshall-earth-shattering volumes, bedroom levels are not the real thing on MA.

My Fat Boost 3 works well as a master volume in the loop for "bedroom" levels.

How does the Fat boost work? Is it an overdrive pedal?

Not really an overdrive. A great clean boost that can add a little grit if you like. Doesn't change your sound you already have.

Clean boost is what pushes MA to next level, I just don't get it why. Does it saturates power tubes earlier or it smoothes preamp gain, it really makes huge difference, especially in boost channel. :dunno

MXR M-108 should be great pedal for MA effect loop, 10 band EQ, plus volume and gain control, so it's kinda an overdrive pedal too, can't wait to try it.

Ok, I got the Boss GE-7 EQ pedal, and it works wonders in the loop. I am selling my distortion pedals, all I need now is super overdrive set for clean boost all the way up and Ge-7 after it for cleaning up the tone and it just screams, I was playing for 2 hours, and can't stop, the tone is amazing.

Here are pics of settings I use now, video coming soon.

Should I run my AC Boost pedal in the loop with my delay? I need a boost (volume) for solos and all I am getting with the AC Boost pedal in front of the amp is more gain?

Yes, totally, in effects loop it will give you more volume, set it as clean boost and off you go. :rocker
