Best speaker cab for MA50H

Postby jagermike66 » 06 Oct 2010, 05:08

Ive had my MA50 for a few months now and Its awesome. Brutal power for a 50 watter. Anyway the only thing is I'm not happy with my standard 1960a with T75 speakers in it. It sounds too toppy with the MA in my opinion.

I play heavy metal, and I cannot deside which cab to get! I want a warmer more rounded sound that still handles the kind of music I play. What does everyone think? Vintage 30s sound great but are a bit peaky in the upper mids so im tempted by a 1960BV....however I cannot take my eyes off the 425B cab with the G12C speakers. Everyone keeps telling me how they're not suitable for metal blah blah blah, but most sound slips i have heard online I have prefered the greenbacks over V30s.

The worst part is there there isnt a music store near me that has both models in stock (typical). Opinions needed please.

Cheers!

If you like the V30's check out Warehouse Guitar Speakers. They make celestion clones that are awesome and less expensive. I recently put the "reapers" in my ma412b cabinet. Luv 'em! :party

Welcome to the forum jagermike66. :Thumbs

You could try putting an EQ pedal in the loop as a cheaper option. :winking
Still my guitar gently weeps

Hey thanks for the comments. This forum is awesome btw, much nicer than a lot of other noise boy forums.

Yeah I'v got an EQ pedal, but thats usually used for a solo boost live. In the studio its used as a tone tweaker like you are saying. I still don't really like the tone of the T75s.....when I say I dont like i mean, they are fine, but I know the others sound better! Plus I've already got the money saved up for a new cab :Thumbs

I think I've made my decision.....A certain Mr Mustaine has had something to do with this! Will post back with pics if I dont change my mind lol (Ive got a feeling it will look delightfully evil onstage)

Oh also when I get chance il record some sound clips with my setup etc, the MA series really seems to be the marmite amplifier since it came out, I personally love it so gonna have to show the haters what I can do with mine.

I like the way you think, have the balls to prove it and don't let popular opinion sway you. Anyone who thinks the higher the cost of the amp the better it is is just wrong

I really like when people comment on my MA in a good way and not in a "oh it's made in Vietnam" way, just listen the sound. I have finally made my setup for gigs and home, SD-1 in effects loop and GE-7 Eq pedal in front boosting the preamp and I can only imagine biggest dorks in Marshall community to bash it after they hear it now.
Last thing that could improve this amp is set of better speakers, everything else sounds great to me.

jaggermike,
If you play heavy metal, you may like the V30's better than the greenbacks. For example, with my VHT and 7 string, my V30s sound much much tighter than my 425. The 425 is still perfect for the VM though.
With great distortion comes great responsibility.

Cheers for the input everyone.

@ Nebulozny - Yeah the MAs just like any amp with its own character. Yes it has the marshall sound but it has its own stamp on it. The resonance control has a lot to do with this I think. You just have to tweak until you find the sweet spots. And the more you use it the more you become familiar with how the amp sounds at different volumes.

An SD-1 in the fx loop? Is'nt that the boss tube screamer clone?

@ Ex-mesa - I tried some V30s in the shop and almost melted. Ordered one straight away. Couldnt believe the difference between them and the standard T75s.
