Super100JH v JTM 45/100 Anniv

Postby kissfanps » 06 Sep 2008, 08:05

Out of sheer curiosity, what are the differences? Wasn't the JH head modeled after the original JTM 45/100?

There are a few differences. The JTM45/100 is basically a JTM45 with four output tubes and two 50W output transformers, it is the original Marshall 100W amp built prior to the availability of 100W output transformers. The JH head is like the slightly later JTM100 (with a 100W output transformer) that also has a slight modification to the tone circuit. The JH amps have a tone circuit like the later Super Leads, where the JTM45/100 has a tone circuit like the JTM45's. These are the only differences that come to mind, there are probably more other than cosmetic ones. Hope this helps.

As stated before the way Hendrix modified the tone circuit in his amps later became standard on the super lead amps.

There was only 12 JTM45/100 dual output transformer heads and associated 8 x 12 cabs ever manufactured for The Who and The Small Faces. They are as rare as hen's teeth. We decided to make the two 4 x 12 configuration cabs for practicality but keeping the top cab semi open backed as per the original.

The first commercially available JTM45/100 heads and cabs were the ones like the Super100JH although they had the single 100W output transformer and standard JTM45 tone stack as MKB said. Most notable user I guess would be Clapton in the Cream days.

Both products can be seen in more detail on the Marshall website but I can't seem to load the pages to post links for some reason. :cuss
Still my guitar gently weeps
